About Me
My name is Peter Hoogenboom. I a bicyclist from Salt Lake City, Utah with 22 years of bicycling experience. In 1973, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 14. After struggling with diabetes for ten years, I admitted to myself that it wasn’t going to go away. I changed my ways. Now, I do my best to live well with diabetes.
I’ve always been active. In high school, I ran cross-country, played hockey, swam competitively, and played golf. In college, I earned a spot on the swim team (NCAA Division III). For the past 22 years, I’ve has used exercise, especially bicycling, as a powerful tool against the complications of diabetes.
My hope is that that sharing my experiences in bicycling and dealing with diabetes can help inspire all people with diabetes towards better care of their condition.
I recently finished The Dream Tour, a seven month, 9,775 mile bicycle tour to each of the 48 contiguous states. I have another web site with daily entries from that tour. It’s called www.thedreamtour.org and I encourage you to visit it to learn more about that adventure.
