It's exciting to have you cycling through my state again! Great website. Let me know if you need anything.

Hi Pete,

Congratulations on getting into Oregon. I hope it is cooling down up there the same as it is here in Utah.

Pat got me the three pair of shorts. The 32" inch waist fits me perfectly. Thanks

I was surprised at the high temp. in Idaho. When do you start getting into higher altitudes. I am guessing however that the humidity is lower than the heat and humidity in the Iowa,ILL, Southern Minnesota states. Interested to read Chris's comments. Happy Fourth. LBH

Happy 4th of July, Pete. When my boys were small, we drove to Oregon every July. I know your route like it's burned into my mind. Actually, the route in July WILL be burned into your mind. I won't tell you what the temps were for us, as we were in the air conditioned car most of the time. Last year's trip included an overnight at Farewell Bend State Park in Oregon. I drove in at 9:30 pm. The temp, (ok I will tell) had been 115 that day. I slept in a tent covered with a sarong that I Kept dumping water on all night. Keep your cool!

Hi Joe,

I was planning to ride on something like a 700x32, but at the recommendation of my local bike shop, I went with a Continental Touring Plus 700x37. It's rated for 70psi, but I started out with them at 80psi. I haven't topped them off since leaving Salt Lake CIty so I'm sure they're more like 70 now. Since I started riding on these tires and this bike back in March, I have yet to have a flat, so I'm very happy with them so far. They weigh in at about 800g each so it's no surprise they're resistant to punctures.

As far as my route goes, I'm headed first to Portland to visit some friends, then I'm going up the coast to Bellingham. I'll catch the ferry there to go to Juneau. I'm making a trip to Sitka to visit a friend and then I'll be on my way back home.
